A field of 132 golfers took part in the tournament, which was sponsored by Bayer East Africa Limited as part of the company’s corporate outreach strategy. The event was Bayer’s second golf tournament this year, with the first having taken place at the Nakuru Golf Club on March 8.

The firm plans on hosting six other events this year across the country to build on last year’s success, where it held ten golf tournaments.

Speaking after the Machakos event, Isabellah Magale, Marketing and Communication Specialist at Bayer East Africa Limited revealed the decision to settle on Machakos Golf Club.

“Today, we had 130 players on the course. The reason we chose Machakos as a destination for our golf tournament is that it is the land of smallholder farmers, and we wanted to interact with them as well as link up with our distributor, who sells our seeds and crop protection solutions to the farmers," she said.

“Bayer has been sponsoring golf for the last 10 years, hosting several events annually. Last year, we held a series of ten events across different golf clubs as part of our 50-year celebrations for one of our products, and this year we aim to have about eight events.

We started at the Nakuru Golf Club before coming to Machakos for the second event. We plan to have six more events across the country as part of our strategic engagements and look forward to engaging with our stakeholders.”

The series moves to the Nandi Bears Club in June this year.
